Garlic And Herb Bread (Printable)

Fluffy golden loaf with fresh herbs and aromatic garlic, ideal as a side or appetizer.

# Ingredient List:

→ Bread Dough

01 - 3 cups (375 g) all-purpose flour
02 - 1 packet (2¼ tsp/7 g) active dry yeast
03 - 1 tsp sugar
04 - 1 tsp salt
05 - 1 cup (240 ml) warm water (110°F/43°C)
06 - 2 tbsp olive oil

→ Garlic and Herb Mixture

07 - 4 tbsp (60 g) unsalted butter, softened
08 - 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
09 - 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
10 - 1 tbsp fresh rosemary, finely chopped
11 - 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
12 - ½ tsp black pepper
13 - ¼ tsp salt

# How to Make:

01 - Combine sugar, yeast, and warm water in a large bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until mixture becomes foamy and activated.
02 - Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy, sticky dough forms.
03 - Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead vigorously for 8–10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and no longer sticky.
04 - Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat all sides. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel. Let rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
05 - While dough rises, combine softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, rosemary, chives, black pepper, and salt in a small bowl. Mix thoroughly until evenly distributed.
06 - Punch down risen dough to release air. Roll out on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle approximately 9x13 inches.
07 - Spread the garlic and herb butter evenly across the entire surface of the rolled dough, leaving a ½-inch border at the edges.
08 - Starting from a short end, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seam to seal and place seam-side down in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
09 - Cover the loaf pan with a towel. Let rise for 30 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) during the final 15 minutes of rising.
10 - Bake for 30–35 minutes until loaf is deeply golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
11 - Allow bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely or serve warm. Slice with a serrated knife.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • The way garlic and fresh herbs bake into the crust creates an aroma that pulls everyone into the kitchen
  • This dough forgiving enough for beginners but impressive enough for dinner guests
02 -
  • The dough is ready to bake when you press it gently with your finger and the indentation slowly fills back in
  • Letting the bread cool in the pan for exactly 10 minutes prevents the bottom from getting soggy but keeps it warm enough to melt butter
03 -
  • Room temperature ingredients prevent the butter from seizing up when you mix it with the garlic and herbs
  • Mixing the garlic into softened butter instead of melting it first prevents the garlic from burning during baking
