Pan Fried Halloumi (Printable)

Golden crispy halloumi seared in olive oil with fresh lemon and aromatic herbs.

# Ingredient List:

→ Cheese

01 - 8 oz halloumi cheese

→ For Frying

02 - 1 tbsp olive oil

→ To Serve

03 - ½ lemon, cut into wedges
04 - 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
05 - Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

# How to Make:

01 - Remove the halloumi from its packaging and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels. Slice the block into ½-inch thick pieces.
02 - Heat the olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat until the oil shimmers.
03 - Arrange the halloumi slices in the pan without overlapping. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy on the edges.
04 - Transfer to a serving plate. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cheese, sprinkle with chopped parsley and black pepper to taste. Serve right away while warm.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • It takes twelve minutes from fridge to plate and tastes like something you would order at a seaside taverna.
  • The salty, squeaky cheese gets a golden crust that makes people think you worked way harder than you did.
02 -
  • Halloumi toughens and loses its magic texture if it sits around, so serve it the moment it leaves the pan.
  • A non stick skillet is honestly your best friend here because this cheese loves to stick and test your patience.
03 -
  • If your halloumi is very salty, a quick 10 minute soak in cold water before drying and frying can mellow it out beautifully.
  • Crowding the pan drops the temperature and steams instead of fries, so cook in batches if needed.
