# How to Make:

01 - Whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, white vinegar, smoked paprika, and black pepper in a small bowl until smooth. Set aside to allow flavors to meld.
02 - Place a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat and allow it to get thoroughly hot.
03 - Divide ground beef into 8 equal portions and roll into balls. Season generously with salt and pepper on all sides.
04 - Place beef balls onto the hot skillet. Press each ball down firmly with a heavy spatula to create thin, irregular-edged patties. Cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until a deep brown crust forms. Flip and cook 1-2 minutes longer. Remove from heat.
05 - Distribute mixed salad greens evenly across four large bowls. Arrange cherry tomatoes, red onion, pickles, avocado, and shredded cheddar cheese over the greens.
06 - Place two crispy burger patties on top of each salad bowl.
07 - Drizzle the prepared smash sauce generously over each bowl. Sprinkle with crispy fried onions if desired. Serve immediately while patties are still warm.

# Helpful Tips:

01 -
  • You get all the crispy edges of a smash burger without the carb overload
  • The sauce comes together in seconds but makes everything taste like a restaurant meal
02 -
  • Do not crowd the pan when smashing the beef, work in batches if necessary so the pan stays hot
  • Let the patties develop a dark crust before flipping, that crispy texture is the whole point of this recipe
03 -
  • Use a cast iron skillet if you have one, it holds heat better and creates superior crust
  • Let the beef come to room temperature for 20 minutes before cooking for even browning
